Madilda The Musical London

Theatre lovers – This Autumn, get ready to buy Matilda Musical Tickets!!!

Matilda – the awesome hit musical produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is set to arrive at the London West End, Cambridge Theatre in October 2011. The musical has been adapted for stage from Roald Dahl’s awesome story about a gifted child with an extraordinary imagination. She loves reading and we, it seems, are set to fall in love with her!

The story which many of us would have been in love with during our childhood years has been, if nothing else, keenly tuned up for the musical on stage by Dennis Kelly (author of the musical version). The original creative team behind the musical for RSC is regrouping to present it at the London West End too. Matthew Warchus (Director), Tim Minchin (music and lyrics), Peter Darling (Choreography), Rob Howell (Design) and Paul Kieve (Illusions and special effects) have scored a golden goal with the production of Matilda The Musical. If Matilda tickets are as hit as the creative team is promising, we can be in for a roller coaster ride at the Cambridge Theatre!

Before its launch by the RSC, critics were skeptical of the concept because as such, most of the musicals that have been adapted from already hit movies (e.g. Spiderman: Turn of the Dark & Lord of The Rings) are not able to perform very well on stage, but Matilda the Musical has already proved its mettle. In fact it is the over whelming response that the musical received at the Courtyard theatre that has pushed it into the London Theatreland. Matilda the musical has won the 2010 Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for the Best Musical and here is what some of them had to say about the much anticipated production in the West End.

“THIS ANARCHIC DELIGHT IS MUSICAL GENIUS”
(The Times)
“A THRILLING NEW PIECE OF MUSICAL THEATRE”
(Evening Standard)
“MATILDA IS BRITISH AND BRILLIANT”
(Daily Mail)
“A SMASH HIT… IRRESISTABLE.THIS SHOW WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE”
(Daily Telegraph)
“JOYOUS, FUNNY & THOUCHING”
(Sunday Telegraph)

It is reported that one critic from the Daily Telegraph declared Matilda the musical to be the next big thing after Billy Elliot at the West End. Indeed most of the critical reviews predict the same for this upcoming new musical. As a matter of fact, Matilda The Musical & Billy Elliot resemble each other in more than one way. For both, children who are considered a bane to the family rise up as moral centres for everyone around them, both the children look to find solace in the activities they love, (Billy in his dancing and Matilda in her books) and finally both the characters are played by three actors each. Well, let us keep our fingers crossed for Matilda the Musical scoring as many awards as Billy Elliot the Musical and Matilda tickets selling as much as the Billy Elliot tickets at the West End.

The full cast for Matilda the Musical is yet to be announced, but most of the adult members of the cast will be reprising their roles in London West End. These actors include Marc Antolin, Bertie Carvel (Miss Trunchbull), Melanie La Barrie , Alastair Parker, Nick Searle, Emily Shaw,Josie Walker (Mrs Wormwood), Paul Kaye (Mr Wormwood), Lauren Ward (Miss Honey), Verity Bentham, Michael Kent and Matthew Malthouse.
